VU Social Justice Documentary

These funds are supporting Villanova University's Social Justice Documentary class. The class learns the craft of documentary video production. Students will then go to a chosen client (a non-profit organization dedicated to a particular issue) and work in collaboration with the client to create a video that will explore and help to define the issue and reveal ways that social action can positively affect social circumstances. The end result will be the creation of a short (less than thirty minutes) video.

The class consists of 20 amature filmmakers of various majors at Villanova University with a passion for social justice and storytelling.

Our production company, Riptide Pictures,  is creating a documentary called Sankofa. The film  is about the loss of identity and its systemic impact on humanity. By exploring the complexities of mental slavery, Sankofa calls it’s audience to free themselves from the system in which they were born.

The class spent two weeks in Ghana in October and spent a few weeks shooting content in Philadelphia for the project.
