Emergency medical costs

Hi my name is Natasha and during a trip to Majorca for my 50th birthday my 82 year old mum developed an infection in both of her legs and was transported by ambulance to hospital in Palma. Since being admitted she has been diagnosed with a heart condition. She did have travel insurance but the insurers have decided they will only cover 51% of the bill. This leaves my mum responsible for 49% of it. As of yesterday the current hospital bill is over €30,000. When she is home we will be appealing the insurers decision and believe we have good grounds for this but that doesn't help the immediate problem of paying the hospital bill once she is deemed fit to fly.

My mum is an incredible and strong woman but she is 82 years old, vulnerable and alone in a foreign country where she is having to rely on Google translate to communicate with the hospital.
