VSIAF Container #23

In February 2024 FijiLIFE Foundation is raising funds for the shipping of Container #23 of Medical & Educational Equipment & Supplies (e.g., wheelchairs, beds) gifted by Rotary Australia Repurposing Equipment in Brisbane to Viti Spinal Injuries Association of Fiji (VSIAF), in Suva. https://vitispinal.com.fj

Mr Gus Raddock, a Founding Director of FijiLIFE Foundation and former Charity Coordinator for Viti Association of South Australia [VASA], was instrumental in establishing VSIAF in Suva on the 18th of August 2007 with fellow quadriplegic, President Mr Paul McGoon, as a charity-based organisation assisting people in Fiji with spinal injuries and the physically challenged. Paul and Gus were concerned with the plight of colleagues with spinal injuries and mobility issues.

Paul died on 22nd April 2022 at home after 21 years of being paralysed due to an injury he sustained from diving into a shallow swimming pool to his spinal cord – c4 vertebrae. Gus Raddock lives in Adelaide having suffered a motor vehicle accident in Alice Springs in 1989 and becoming a C5-6 quadriplegic. The late David Aidney, Chief Executive of Williams & Gosling, was Patron of VSIAF for many years, providing valuable support to the programs of VSIAF. Paul's wife, Rokula McGoon, and son, Simon McGoon continue the healing work of VSIAF in Suva.

Over the 15-year period from 3 June 1999 to 10 May 2015, Gus Raddock, as Charity Coordinator for VASA, shipped 22 x 40 ft containers of Medical & Educational Equipment & Supplies to VSIAF from Rotary Donations In Kind, Adelaide. 4 containers included hurricane relief materials. Goods were shipped to several hospitals all over Fiji. These resources are critical to transform the lives of people and improve a community’s environment.

Now it's time to ship Container #23! FijiLIFE Foundation and VSIAF are seeking your gifts to ship Container #23 to VSIAF in Suva in keeping with the legacy of Paul McGoon and Gus Raddock. Having used, but up-to-date specialist equipment, can mean the difference between life and death for patients being treated in their homes or Fiji hospitals.

We look forward to receiving your support.
