VSC Fundraiser for Afghanistan Humanitarian Aid

Afghanistan is currently going through a devastating humanitarian and displacement crisis. They are on the brink of universal poverty and lack basic necessities to sustain life. As the political uncertainty rapidly increases in Afghanistan, the lives of the Afghan people continue to be in severe danger.

 

550, 000 Afghans have been displaced from Afghanistan due to the escalation of violence and insecurity in the country during the recent weeks. 80% of those displaced are women and children. Afghanistan is facing a major humanitarian and refugee crisis while experiencing a strong wave of COVID-19.

 

18 million Afghans within Afghanistan need immediate humanitarian aid. One third of the population don’t have access to basic food necessities. As Afghanistan’s issues continue to compound, we must actively play a role in assisting with providing essential resources and humanitarian aid to displaced Afghans.

 

Vaughan Soccer Club has begun an initiative with our current League 1 Ontario player and Captain of the Afghanistan Women’s National Team, Farkhunda Muhtaj to raise immediate funds. We encourage the League 1 Ontario, CPL, and Ontario Soccer community to help empower the Afghan community by donating towards our Afghanistan relief initiative.

 

100% of the funds raised will be directed to Penny Appeal Canada and Deliver Fund. Penny Appeal Canada has been distributing food packs, hygiene kits, clothes, and blankets in Afghanistan while Deliver Fund continues to work on emergency rescue operations in the country.

 

We are hoping our soccer community can unite and together provide a meaningful impact for our Afghan brothers and sisters. We thank everyone for their continued support and generous contributions. Change is a team sport and together we can make it happen.
