Chasity's Long Road to Recovery

Donation protected
Chasity has been the most amazing friend, support for so many people, and is always there to help others. She is such an independent woman and struggles to ask for help (even fights against it some times lol). She is now struggling lots right now, fighting to get healthy, and unable to meet her basic needs. I am setting up this Go Fund Me to help her relieve some financial burden she has accrued due to her situation.

A small portion of her story:

Chasity is a 50 year old women, who has raised 2 amazing children on her own. She has been very active and supports so many friends, family, and even strangers in the community. Chasity is one who would be there for anyone and help in any way she can.

June 7th, 2023 she was at work and had an episode of A-fib. She went to the hospital, who almost sent her home, but thankfully her Apple watch showed how bad things were. After a consult with the on-call cardiologist, she was immediately put on meds to help regulate my blood pressure and heart rate.

On October 30th, 2023 the cardiologist called after a stress test and told she could no longer work with her current heart condition. This was the beginning of her financial burden. She had major problems with her employer with being denied for disability for a very long time, due to her family doctor being away and not completing the forms. She is now receiving 60 percent of regular wages, after months of no income so all her savings were diminished.

On December 18, 2023 she had an angiogram and it was discovered she had a total of 18 blockages, including the Widow maker in her heart. The cardiologist told her that “this is as bad as it gets, we just need to get you to the surgery.” There was a good chance that she could die with no warning in her current state. The surgery was put as urgent and was supposed to be the first two weeks of January. They were thinking it was going to be at least a quadruple bypass.

Unfortunately, she then had a terrible fall down the steps leaving a cardiologist appointment and broke her femur, tibia, tore the main artery in her calf, and had a blood clot. She also pulled the Tendon and ACL in her leg. She then spent a week in the hospital and returned home not able to put any weight on her leg, as they could not do surgery due to her heart condition. Due to the damage to her leg, she was unable to be rushed for the required heart bypass, as she would have to be able to walk independently on her own after the surgery.

Luckily after 2 months of little to no pressure on her left leg, her leg healed enough to finally get her bypass March 6, 2024. She is currently still in hospital and the surgery went well, but her road to recover is only beginning. The leg injury is going to make it difficult to heal from the bypass, and she will need lots of things to help with her recovery.

Financially she has fallen behind on all her bills, rent, struggles to buy food over the course of the last 5 months, and still will not be getting enough to cover the future costs. Some of her medications are covered, however only partially by her employer and her portion she pays is quite high. She also required/requires lots of medical equipment and items to help with recover such as lift chair, braces, supports in the bathroom/shower, wheel chair, etc. With great difficulty, she has reached out to some community programs to help her with some costs, however it has not been enough to help her catch up, nor to help her as she recovers.

I am creating this Go Fund Me to help a woman that truly needs the help. Chasity is one woman that really deserves the support, as she has been there for so many people and steps up to help when no one else does. My goal is to help for at least a few months financially so she can get by and not stress over finances while she recovers. Any small or large amount helps.

Update (March 13): Chasity is now home from the hospital and beginning her recovery. She is not open to having visitors yet, as she is recovering and has to watch her health, as she cannot risk to get sick at this time.

A couple stories I'd like to share of her time in the hospital to speak to the inspiration she is. A man was crying and scared before his surgery and Chasity went over to hold his hand, provide empathy and words of encouragement. She provided great resources to other patients and their families to help support them with their health and mental health. Nurses constantly told me how Chasity made their day every day with her sense of humor, appreciation and care for the other patients in the ward. Even with all she is going through, she still thinks of others and shares her love and support to anyone around her.
