Honduras 2020

I have been blessed with the opportunity to go on a missions trip to Honduras for a week in March of 2020. Specifically, we will be serving the island of Roatán under the direction of a local church. While there, I will be working in the hospital system, school system, orphanage, and making home visits to the village living atop a garbage dump.

As most of you know I am minoring in Disaster & Healthcare Missions Management (DHMM). Through my DHMM courses I have learned a lot about when healthcare and short term missions trip can leave a community worse off than before they arrived.  The scary part is that most teams/churches/organizations don't even realize this is happening.  One of my favorite parts about this trip is the fact that we are working through a local church and utilizing local resources, including local people.  Through this collaboration we are able to focus on development (long term effect) rather than just relief (short term effect).
