Volunteering in Simanjaro Health Centre Tanzania

Hi, my name is Holly Pigott. I am a second year midwifery student in University of Galway. In June 2025, alongside three of my fellow midwifery students, I have the privilege to volunteer in St.Elizabeth Hospital Arusha and Simanjaro Health Centre for 4 weeks.

This trip is part of a module in college titled "Global Health". This module explores the barriers to healthcare around the world and how healthcare is changing in our quickly changing climate. This trip is a once in a life time learning opportunity.

During our time in Tanzania, we will be involved in providing medical and surgical care to both adults and children. We will be able to participate in antenatal and postnatal care of women in the hospital and outpatient settings.

The trip is self funded and each student going will be making a contribution to the charity this trip is in partnership with, Athenry Simanjaro Partnership. This fundraising will go towards the medical sites in Arusha and Simanjaro to help them expand the care they provide.
