Volunteer Work in Nicaragua

As a Connecticut Fund for Teachers Fellow , I will be traveling to NIcaragua and Costa Rica to participate in a Spanish Language Immersion Program through Common Ground International to acquire Spanish language skills and deepen my understanding of Hispanic culture. I will participate in community service projects while there.

One of the places where I will be working is House of Hope Nicaragua, a residential community for 21 women and their children who are on a 5-year rehabilitation plan to completely change their lives from being trafficked prostitutes (with zero sense of self) to responsible mothers who indepently earn a dignified living.  It's a noble and extremely difficult vision for these women.

House of Hope offers many programs to enable women to succeed in life.  Their current programs include: Residence Program, Tuesday Morning Program, Education Program, and Micro Grant Program.

A donation in any amount will aid House of Hope in their mission to rescue women and children from slavery and prostitution.
