One year ago today, January 6, 2017, a mass was found in Rick's brain. The mass was removed January 17, and it was confirmed to be Grade IV Glioblastoma Multiforme. Rick has been doing well for the most part, although recently plagued with seizures and right-side deficits. Doctors have confirmed that he has stabalized swelling around the mass, but the mass itself has grown, minimally from the last MRI, which had grown minimally from the previous, which had grown minimally from the last, and so on.
Rick has been prescribed a brace for his ankle and physical therapy to assist with his deficits. His seizure medications are continuously being adjusted, and unfortunately will probably never stop them altogether, but may make the breakthroughs less often. As for the tumor itself, we are sitting on pins and needles to hear from the oncologist what the tumor board is recommending.
And, as everyone knows, and experiences, the out of pocket maximum we met in 2017 has been reset and raised this year. Rick was denied for SSDI, due to a credit shortage as they do not take schooling into the equation. We are still waiting for a decision from SSI, which has been pending since the end of November, and DHS has denied us this past year because our "potential" income is too high. It is my responsibility to take care of my family, and right now I cannot do it on my own between the regular life bills and the medical. We wish we did not have to ask for help, but without it I am afraid that I will be unable to provide the medications and treatments required for Rick.
We understand not everyone is able to give and we understand that many have already given what they can. We appreciate greatly what we have already received. If you are unable to give we ask that you continue to pray for Rick and our family.
