Help For Karen Giel

Hello Everyone.
We are coming together to help our dear friend Karen.

Many of you know that a couple of years ago, Karen's husband of 30 years had suffered several debilitating strokes which have left him disabled. This has made Karen sole caregiver and financial supporter of their household. Karen however, has many health issues of her own.  For most of her life she has suffered from Osteo and Rheumatoid Arthritis.  Diseases which have ravaged her bones and joints and has caused her to have many surgeries and complications over the years. In February of this year, she suffered a serious bone infection. This resulted in two more surgeries and over six months away from work.  During this time, she also suffered a spinal fracture which now requires more surgery if she ever hopes to walk again.  As her medical benefits are running out, she will need to pay her own medical expenses and those of her husband.  As bills pile up with no relief in site, we are pulling together to help her through this difficult time.

Karen has touched so many live in her friendships and career at UNC Charlotte. She has worked with so many students and young adults, always offering a helping hand, emotionally, physically and even financially with money out of her own pocket. She has the sensitivity to know when someone is hurting and would always reach out and try to  help in any way she could. Now we would like to do the same for her so she can keep her home and get the medical care she needs for her and her dear husband. Many of you have experienced the love and care Karen shows to everyone she meets. So let us in turn, show her how  much she is truly loved.
