Virunga Community Conservation Resource Hub

A healthy environment that benefits local farmers socio-economically is a human right!
The Virunga landscape presents one of the most culturally and biodiverse regions across Africa and the globe yet faced with the highest risk of cultural derail and habitat loss to deforestation due to private investments [mainly tourism development]- yet not directly contributing to the socio-economic welfare of the local farmers amidst a fast degrading environment. Additionally, the science, stories and cultures of conservation from local farmers, once documented are very important in establishing how we rely on nature and wild resources.
Through this project, we shall be directly supporting 3,000 farmers and households communities within the Virunga, through incentivized small-scale ecosystem restoration to enhance household incomes- targetting to restore over 10,000 hectares across the Virunga. The funds will also be used to build/establish the first-ever multi-lingual community conservation science-telling and storytelling resource hub to obtain and store traditional science and stories from more than 13 tribes.
Each dollar contributed will;
- Support a local farmer for every tree planted for up to three-month maturity as an alternative income source while restoring degraded lands
- Purchase a block to raise the structures of the community resource hub
- Document a story per farmer within the Virungaacross more than 13 tribes- contributing to the conservation resource hub
