For the past year I have been working on a Vintage 1965 VW Beetle as a side project while I am at University. I've always loved old cars, and the character that they have. The Beetle is a classic car that everyone knows and each one has a unique story. This car had been sitting since 1992, and I really want to get it on the road again! It has been a great learning experience, in both finances and skills, as most of the time it has been just above my capabilities.
As with many projects there are limitations, and recently I have hit the largest limitation with this project, my workspace. I lost access to a garage to work on the Bug, after moving. This comes at an inconvenient point in the car's progress, the paint and bodywork!
Before the move I was planning on doing this work myself as I knew it would be expensive to have a shop perform this. (Little did I know the truth of that!) I had purchased the supplies and paint, only to discover that this task was too large for the time I had left in the garage.
I have to work on the engine in my bedroom!
So without a place to do this work, I have to send it to a shop which is crazy pricey!
So my current situation is one of a hard decision, part with a project that I have enjoyed for over a year, and is close to fruition? Or scrape together the funds to finish the body and paint work and get this classic old beauty back on the road!
I recognize that this is a hard time for lots of people, the past year has been filled with misfortune and hardship. I believe in paying-it-forward, and the power of generosity. I know that there will be a time when others need my assistance and I will be able to help them in return.
I only ask that if you believe in dreams and the commitment to a car restoration project, that you donate a few dollars to my project. For every $3 donated, you can submit a vote for what color I will paint my Beetle. (It is originally a VW Ruby Red color, but I am willing to take a majority decision.)
