Cj's Fight

Donation protected
On August 14, 2017 John and Molly Vinci (and big sister Charlotte) welcomed Carl John Vinci into the world. Shortly after birth it became apparent that CJ was not well and he was transferred to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) on 8/16/17. For those who have been following our updates on Facebook, you know that Carl has bilateral cataracts, a small hole between the chambers of his heart (Patent Foraman Ovale), weak muscle tone (hypotonia), as well as difficulties eating, and maintaining body temperature and oxygen saturation levels. Currently the cause of his symptoms is unknown, but he is undergoing genetic testing to determine whether or not he has muscular dystrophy. Although we pray that this is not the diagnosis, we are aware that it is a real possibility. The results of the genetic testing are expected to be delivered sometime during the second week of September.

In response to so many of your requests to help them at this time, we have set up a this Go Fund Me to allow you all to be a part of their lives as you feel led and are able.

Here are two areas where they are experiencing a significant and unexpected increase in expenses.

HEALTH CARE

Because John is self-employed, they are responsible for paying for all health insurance costs out of pocket which includes each monthly premium as well as the usual deductibles and office co-pays.  With of the addition of Carl to their family, they will see a significant increase in these expenses. As of now we know CJ will need surgery for his cataracts. Because of the highly specialized nature of this surgery it appears as though they will need to travel to Johns Hopkins in Baltimore, MD. This will require several trips for the initial consultation, staying locally during the surgery itself, and follow up appointments. We don't know what other specialized healthcare needs CJ will have, but we will update that information as we are able.

TRANSPORTATION

Also, since the birth of his son John has not been able to maintain his regular work hours, and because he is self-employed this is a major hit. He does not recieve paid vacation or sick time, so time away from work means significantly decreased income at a time when increased expenses (gas, tolls, food, bus fare) are quickly adding up. Right now they are sharing one car, which Molly is using to drive to Fairfax each day (1+ hr each way), while John makes the 1/2 mile trek to the bus on foot.  He will have to continue to do this  after Carl comes home so that Molly has access to the car in the event that there is a medical emergency.
John had planned on replacing the radiator and repairing his car himself, but now his "spare" time and funds are consumed with more important little people!  They are hopeful the car is repairable, but won't know for sure until parts have been replaced; if not they will need to purchase another vehicle in the near future.

I know I speak for John, Molly, and the extended Vinci and Sayre families when I say that we have been overwhelmed by your prayers, words of encouragement, and desire to meet their needs in a practical way at this challenging time. God has a plan for Carl and we know that He loves this little guy even more than we do.
