VidWest Music Video Festival Launch

WHAT IS VIDWEST?
VidWest is a brand new music video festival with big dreams! On June 1st and 2nd, 2018, filmmakers and musicians will come together in Columbia, Missouri to celebrate the dynamic relationship of music and cinema with a noncompetitive weekend festival of music videos, live performances, panelist sessions, and a dance party! ​

OUR STORY
It all began with a local musician, a filmmaker, and a song. A single music video, deserving of a more interactive home, blossomed into a greater brainchild of a ragtag collective of well-connected performers, independent filmmakers, videographers, and entrepreneurs.

Still, a rift exists between musicians and filmmakers, so where do local artists fall on the wide spectrum of the two industries? With the help of Columbia Access Television (CAT), VidWest will bring together creatives in the film and music spheres for a celebratory, midwest music video experience!

HOMEGROWN IN THE MIDWEST
Columbia, Missouri hosts a rich and robust artistic community. The festival’s downtown headquarters, the North Village Arts District, is home to a diverse collection of small businesses, venues, galleries, and shops. We are excited to include Logboat Brewing Company, Artlandish Gallery, Fretboard Coffee, Rose Music Hall, and Hitt Records on a growing list of participating venues.


CRAWLING IN UNEXPECTED PLACES
A successful launch party in December brought hundreds to Logboat Brewing Co., whose upper level was transformed into a live music venue and dance event, showcasing original films on floor-to-ceiling, wall-to-wall projectors. An indoor tent installation with individual headphones and beanbag seating provided an intimate and unique music video viewing experience for attendees.

June’s festival will transform coffee shops, art galleries, breweries, and other local businesses into interactive venues for an up-close and personal listening and viewing event, pub-crawl style!

Festivals take work, and we can’t wait to make our first year as engaging as our launch event! Here’s how your generous donation will be put to use:

- Hosting filmmakers and musicians, by providing travel and meal stipends.
- Building multi-venue viewing installations in downtown businesses.
- Purchasing and renting projectors, sound equipment, seating, and signage
- Printing and advertising
- Supporting local artists by bringing together a collaborative community for an unforgettable experience!
