Vet Bills for Nelly

Nelly is a 13 (ish) year old beagle who was used in animal testing protocols for the first 10 years of her life.  As a result, she has battled numerous illnesses over the last couple of years.  2 weeks ago she suffered a neck injury.  It was a vet bill that was over $900.  About a week into her treatment, she started getting really sick.  She had severe diarrhea and blood in her urine.  So, I took her back to her vet today.  The prognosis was not good.   Her bloodwork came back and her platelets were basically non existant.   Her veterinarian said she had something called Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation (DIC for short).  Basically her blood will not clot.  She is currently hospitalized over night for observation and is receiving plasma and IV fluids along with constant monitoring of her platelet counts to see if they are increasing.   Today's vet bill is about $2600.  The problem is, DIC is a secondary condition to a more serious issue. Nelly will need to be seen by a specialist to determine the underlying cause of the DIC so that the condition can be effectively treated.   Many of you already know Nelly and her complete story and have followed us through her journey on her facebook page, so you know that we do not often ask for assistance.  However, $3500 in less than 2 weeks, with much more expected is a little more than I can handle right now.   Any amount will be truly appreciated and will help tremendously.
