Aiden's Journey - Help Aiden Fight AML

Donation protected
The day Aiden's parents heard the words “your son has cancer” was the most devastating day of their lives. Less than 6 months ago, Aiden was a healthy, thriving 5 year old.  Today, he is at John’s Hopkins in St. Petersburg, fighting for his life.

I’m not sure where to start or if I will ever truly find the right words - if you haven’t gone through such a devastating battle with your child - I’m not sure one will ever truly understand the depths of what Aiden and his family are facing. We can stand with Aiden and his family and help them fight AML. Financial and emotional support are ways we can take a small burden off of what they are going through.

On June 1, 2022 - Aiden was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia. AML only accounts for about 20% of childhood leukemias. This type of cancer is aggressive and difficult to treat. Complicating things for Aiden is a genetic mutation that he has that his team is currently researching to see if it is causing or contributing to Aidens AML. When Aiden was admitted he also had critical levels of inflammation, high fevers, severe pain in his legs, rashes and swelling. They found that his heart was also inflamed and not functioning the way it needs to, and caused fluid to build in his body. Aiden became severely anemic and required blood transfusions and many other medications to keep his body fighting. Aiden was transferred from Orlando to St. Petersburg All Childrens John’s Hopkins after his diagnosis. John’s Hopkins is 1 hour away from home and has disrupted their family life in all the things that we may take for granted.

Aiden has gone through multiple bone marrow biopsies and procedures to put in central lines and has started chemotherapy. Aiden is fighting everyday for his life right now. He is fighting something no child should ever have to face. Aiden has a large team of specialists helping him fight. Erin (mom) has fiercely advocated for Aiden for him to have the best doctors he can possibly have on his team.

Erin and James are right there by his side and his sister Malia is in their hometown staying with close family friends. Right now they are taking things moment by moment, because it is all that they can do.

Childhood cancer is devastating emotionally and sadly takes its toll on every aspect of life. Aiden will need round-the-clock care in both the hospital and when he can return home, which will only be for short periods of time in between long hospital stays. Because of his age and childhood leukemia, Erin will have to be his full-time caregiver and not just his loving mom. James will need to take extended time off work. They will need to travel back and forth, help find sitters for their animals and people to take care of things at home. Every penny raised will go directly toward the care of Aiden and any present or future medical expenses. It is estimated that every year of Leukemia treatment is $100,000+, and places a financial hardship on most families.

We know that Aiden is loved by many. He needs our help, because we truly believe he can beat this scary childhood cancer.   We will be updating his journey here and other social outlets. Please keep Aiden and his Mom Erin, Dad James and Sister Malia in your thoughts and prayers.  Thank you to any and all for your support!
