Hello there. My name is Danny Jimenez. This is my first time here and I am trying to help a friend.
Maria Valentina Ortuno Reveron (Valen) is 11 years old. She is the daugther of my high school friend from Venezuela, Maria Alejandra Reveron Caputto.
Valen has been diagnosed with Lymphomblastic Leukemia. I cannot begin to imagine or attempt to describe what Valen, Maria Alejandra and their whole family are going through. I think of my kids and my wife every time I think of Valen and Maria Alejandra. It is crazy how quickly life can change. Valen was doing just fine. One day she wasn't feeling good and the next thing they knew they were all given this terrible news.
As you can imagine their lives have been turned upside down. They lived on Margarita Island and within weeks, they left their town, their house, their jobs to move to Caracas to seek better medical attention for Valen...
And to make matters worse, the country they live in is a total desaster. Venezuela is a failed state. A failed state in the whole sense. There is no electricity, no essential items, food and certainly, there is no medication of any sort that can be found in the country. Particularly, the one Valen needs.
Valen needs L-asparaginase, an anti-cancer chemotherapy drug that is very expensive and impossible to source in Venezuela.
I am asking for your help so we can together help Valen get the money her family needs to buy L-asparaginase. That is why I am raising $10,000 to help them buy enough medication for her to go through the next rounds of treatment over the next 7 months.
I have called several places here in the US and the medication is available but it costs $190 per shot. She needs 90 of them to get through 7 months of agony and hope.
I have never done this (raised money this way) and I do not know how it will go. I hear that this platform is great as it provides a place for humans to show that they care. As I type this, I have a 2 little boys right next to me as I want to see how lucky we are to be right here, right now. I also want them to see that we can - from a distance, make a difference.
