Please Help Our Mom Fight Breast Cancer!

My sister and I are starting this GoFundMe for our amazing mom, Monica. Back in October, she was laid off from a job that she had been at for 13 years. The week after, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. This diagnosis completely shocked our family. Our mom has a long and tough battle ahead of her fighting this awful disease, but thanks to the support from our amazing family, friends, and medical team, we know she will win this battle.

Our mom’s treatment started in November with surgery to remove the tumor. Next, she has 16 rounds of chemotherapy which began on 12/16/19 and will continue until the end of April. After the chemo, she will finish by doing radiation and hormone therapy.

Every day this year will be a battle meaning our mom will not be able to find a new job just yet. As a result, she will no longer have benefits including insurance, medical leave, etc. Her health insurance costs will triple (under Cobra) and our family will not have enough income to cover her medical or living expenses. This financial burden has put our family under immense pressure. Our mom considered putting off her treatment so she can help us finish college and start our new careers. However, this is not an option as her doctors said the treatment cannot wait.

Our mom is the most compassionate and giving person that we know and has sacrificed so much of herself to help others without expecting anything in return. She has fearlessly gone through surgery and started chemotherapy beaming with positivity, despite the awful side effects that come with cancer treatment. Watching our mom fight cancer has been one of the most difficult but inspiring experiences of our lives. Every day, she makes us stronger people.

We really want to make sure that our mom is able to focus on healing without the stress of overbearing costs. We want to thank our family and friends who have already offered their love and support.
