In November 2017 Kira was first admitted to Wolfson Children's Hospital with seizures. She was released several days later, and we were hopeful that it was an isolated event. The following month Kira was readmitted after a seizure and was diagnosed with epilepsy.
In January 2018 Kira was airlifted back to Wolfson Children's Hospital PICU from the emergency room. She has been at the hospital for the past few weeks, while doctors try to find the right medicines to control her seizures. Her first birthday was celebrated in the PICU, surrounded by family and a loving & caring nursing staff.
Throughout her hospitalization and after her release Kira will recieve physical therapy, speech therapy, and ocupational therapy to help her overcome some of her developmental delays and the setbacks this extended hospital stay has caused.
As a result of the long hospital stay followed by an anticipated intense outpatient therapy schedule, Olivia will be transitioning to caring for Kira as a stay at home parent.
We appreciate any help and support you would like to provide while we work through this challenging time.
The funds raised during this campaign will help pay the 2017 and 2018 out of pocket medical expenses associated with Kira's three hospital stays to date (approximately $11,000). Any additional funds raised would help Olivia and Stephanie transition from a dual income to a single income family. While Olivia will eventually find alternate sources of income, that can't happen until the family is discharged and settled into their new routine.
We are so lucky to have friends and family who have shown us so much love and support while we focus on getting this tough little turkey healthy again. Thank you!
