Jacobs Ladder

Jacob Mckanry was shot during a brutal robbery on the evening of Monday, May 4th near the 900 block of Orange Avenue in Coronado. He sustained serious damage to a lung and his liver. He was trying to sell personal property...in hopes of buying a car for college in the fall. Jacob is 18 years old and a senior at Coronado High School.

This is OUR Jacob. He’s the young man who plays football...and also goes to city council meetings. When a choir director’s guitar is taken, he is the first to try and find it. If he sees something that is wrong in his community, he speaks up and takes action. Jacob goes out of his way to be helpful and of purpose.

He is passionate about what he believes in, but always takes the time to listen to others. It does not matter who you are...if you need help, Jacob is always there to lend a hand.

Now we have a chance to help him. Jacob has a unique ability to bring people together. Let’s unify as a community...to help him rise above this tragedy. Jake has a journey ahead of him. We don’t know all the challenges he will face...but there will certainly be ongoing medical treatment needed. Please give what you can to Jacob’s Ladder. Thank you! ❤️

UPDATE: Jacob returned home briefly after the shooting. However due to serious complications, he was back in the hospital the following day. Since May 4th, he has literally been fighting for his life during a series of ups and downs. He has been alone in the hospital during some of the most critical times...due to COVID-19 restrictions. Jake was shot by a hollow point bullet from a .45 caliber gun. The bullet tore a golf ball sized hole in his liver before collapsing a lung...and finally resting between his spine and aorta. It was actually his spine that stopped the bullet. He also developed an aneurysm near his aorta...that required immediate surgical repair. Then in an extremely complicated ten-hour surgery, a team of surgeons carefully removed the bullet. A stent was placed in his liver to help improve liver function. Jake continues to battle bacterial infections and other challenges with unwavering courage...along with his faith in God. It has been five weeks of “two steps forward, one step back.” You can read more about Jacob’s journey here:

*All donations are going toward Jacob’s ongoing medical care...and to ensure that the Mckanrys have the resources they need, to focus on Jake’s continued improvement. The goal is to help lighten the load, by eliminating financial burdens as much as possible. PLEASE keep sharing Jacob’s story...any help will be more than appreciated by his family. ❤️
