Help Get Karen Home

As many of you may know already my mom, Karen, was recently diagnosed with stage 4 squamous cell lung carcinoma. Unfortunately, it has already spread to her bones as well. With clearance from her oncologists, they approved of her taking one last trip to her favorite place for a family vacation before she began the most important fight of her life. While we were away, she took a turn for the worst and landed in the ICU at Sarasota Memorial Hospital in Florida. She is battling to avoid renal and respiratory failure while dealing with the side effects of the toxins that the cancer is releasing into her blood, rendering her unable to communicate with us verbally. She is currently stuck in Florida with my father with minimal options of getting her back home to her family for one and back to Sloan Kettering to start the much-needed aggressive treatment to try and stop this cancer and save her life. We have been told that the only way to get her home is to use medical transport by air which insurance will not cover, and the cost is astronomical. I never thought I would have to reach out to ask for the support of our friends and family for something like this, but we are in dire straits. Asking for help like this isn't about putting burdens on friends and family. It's about letting them walk with us down a path we never intended to walk alone. Any help towards this cause to get my mother home to her loved ones and her doctors would have us so very grateful.
