Greg has been through a lot.
A little over a year ago his kidneys failed.
He fought off dialysis for 6 months.
About 9 months ago he started dialysis. The day I got home from the hospital his basement flooded.
He made arrangements with a company to come out and clean up the basement while he was healing after that hospital stay.
They showed up on and off for a few weeks. Fans were put in to dry the water. Furniture was moved around. Greg's friends helped move things out of the basement.
The company never emptied the basement.
They never power washed the floor and walls. Greg scrubbed dirt off of the floor. The company did not.
They never cut away the soiled wood. They did remove the carpet but left some under a shelf that was never moved. A piece of mold covered carpet was left behind. Standing water was left in the bathroom. They never cleaned the furniture.
Initially the company talked about replacing the carpet. Greg did that himself.
The company seems to have shoved some furniture around, broken a light, and sprayed the walls with "magic" mold cleaner.
The company never provided an estimate for this work. They have now decided that Greg owes them $11,000. They've put a lien on his house in an attempt to extract the money.
He's working with a lawyer to stop the lien process and save his home but time is growing short.
