Baskets for Veterans

My name is Mariah and I've been a nurse since April 2015. In late 2015, I started a non-profit organization with the help of my family to give back to our local veterans. Being a medical professional, I often take care of our local veterans, hear their stories,  and see the tears they cry from the sacrifices they've made for our country. Who else is more deserving than the wonderful people who fought for our freedom? And did you that know statistics show that on any given night, there are over 39,000 homeless veterans nation wide? Those statistics are gut wrenching. These selfless people often just want to feel appreciated and know that they are so appreciated. Please join me in celebrating our 3rd year with our Non-Profit Organization 'Baskets for Veterans'. It's a little something just to give back and let them know how appreciated they are. The last two years, we have donated over 200 baskets  each year to our local veterans in the VA Hospital in Huntington, WV, The Veterans Home in Barboursville, WV and last year we actually got to expand to The Veterans Home in Chillicothe, OH. Our organization runs strictly on donations (monetary and physical products). To sponsor a veteran during the holiday season, it cost only $10. Each basket is filled with a blanket, toboggan, gloves, word search puzzles, ink pens, hygiene items such as soap, razors, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and deodorants, non-perishable food items such as pudding, applesauce, crackers, cookies, ect. Each basket is then topped off with a bible, printed bible verse, and a Christmas card.  If you could only see their faces when they receive these small gifts of thanks, you would understand why I strive to do bigger and better things every year.
