USVI Cat and Dog Rescue
Donation protected
My name is Dawn Balcazar and I am a Boston based animal rescuer who helps bring cats and dogs from the US Virgin Islands to the Boston area where they are adopted into loving homes. In the USVI, there is a perfect recipe for cat and dog overpopulation: warm weather, low spay/neuter rates and separation from the mainland. A bad situation has gotten worse, post-hurricane.
Since September, I have arranged and sponsored the transport of 22 kittens/cats from St. Thomas and St. John (some with the help of the Pets with Wings Program of the Humane Society of St. Thomas, for whom I raised money in a previous gofundme). I was also part of two large transports of animals from St. Thomas, one led by Island Dog Rescue in September and the other led by Love for Love City Foundation in November. In both evacuations, I met the transport plane in Virginia, and drove a total of 35 cats and 22 dogs to New England rescue organizations. This was just the beginning.
In 2018, my island colleague Kelsey Wyrick, a vet tech, and I are continuing to prepare and transport more cats and dogs from St. Thomas and St. John to Boston. We arrange for and fund all of the necessary medical visits pre-and post-travel as well as the transportation costs. Any donations from you will go solely and directly toward these fees.
Looking into the eyes of these homeless animals, it is impossible to just walk away. They can lead fulfilling lives and add so much to the lives of their human companions. Let’s help them get there!
