Alivia's Recovery Support Fund

A little over a month ago, another of our very dear teenage friends unexpectedly became terribly ill.  Alivia Collins, our beautiful, kind, super athletic friend was leading the life of a normal fifteen year old girl, enjoying her freshman year of high school on weekdays, and persuing her passion for softball on weekends.

Yesterday marked 5 weeks  that Alivia has now been hospitalized. She was transferred two weeks ago from Memorial Hospital to Scottish Rite Children's Hospital in Atlanta.  After undergoing  tremendous amounts of testing and scanning, doctors are comfortable in diagnosing her with "POST INFECTIOUS CEREBELLITIS" which is damage to the cerebellum portion of the brain. The doctors believe this was due to a previous viral infection that she had weeks before she became so very ill.  This condition is very rare and even more rare in Alivia's case because  it usually occurs in children under 3.

Since being at Scottish Rite, Alivia has undergone massive amounts of testing, IVIG Therapy,  J-Tube feeding, and is down over 25 pounds since the  onset of her illness. However, over the course of the last few days , Alivia is slowly starting to show improvement!!!! Her nystagmus (involuntary eye movement) has been really bad, but it is slowing down and her vision is starting to  return. She was just using one or two words and now she is talking in sentences. Her dizziness and nausea are improving, though she still can't walk or sit on her own without assistance.
This week  she was transferred to the rehab portion of the facility. Here she will receive intensive physical, occupational, and speech therapy daily.

We are so thankful that she has started making baby steps toward her recovery!!!!  I am starting this page because so many of Alivia and her family's friends and family want to help  during this tough time, and the road to recovery will most certainly be one paved with lots of financial hurdles!!!!!

Please  keep Alivia and her family in your thoughts and prayers. If you would like to make a donation to help with Alivia's recovery, you can do so right on this cite. I know she and her family are so greatful for your support!!!

PLEASE Share Alivia's story with your Facebook friends and ask them to do the same!!!! Social media can be a such a POSITIVE powerful tool
