It’s easy to find people you fit with when times are good, but it’s a blessing to find people you fit with when times are tough. It’s hard to find people you can trust enough to know that when you’re in trouble, they’ll be there when you turn around to look for support. I have found those people and their names are Mark and Christine Reinschreiber.
Christine has been my best friend for 24 years. She and her husband Mark met 8 years ago and got married 4 years ago - we always like to joke that he inherited a second wife when they got married because I’m always around. When you know someone and spend that kind of time with two people for so long, you’re there to witness the good and you’re also there to witness the inevitable bad.
Mark and Christine have experienced numerous life challenges, both as a couple and as individuals. Mark lost a thriving business and his home within months of his marriage and had been working hard to recover from this devastating blow ever since. Christine’s daughter, Terra, who has been like a daughter to Mark, lost her biological father four years ago to a heart attack. Mark took on the responsibility of serving as her father figure, not because he thought he had to, but because that’s the man Mark is. He attended all of her school events, mentoring her through boyfriend heartbreak and even moving her into college. He gave her his love and made sure she knew she was not alone. Mark committed himself completely to giving Terra what he was desperately missing. Mark lost his own father fifteen years ago and it was devastating to him. Six years ago, he lost his sister. Then only two years ago, he lost his mother to leukemia.
Last week, Mark suffered a massive stroke and is in the ICU fighting for his life. Although they are not sure what caused the stroke, the culprit appears to be an infection that started in his heart. That life threatening infection is our primary concern right now and we're joining with his outpouring of supporters in praying he can survive it. To say the least, this is a frightening time for the Reinschreiber family. Although the timing and possibility of Mark's exit from the ICU is unknown, one thing is certain - he will require extensive physical rehabilitation for at least a year. The funds I'm hoping to raise will go towards medical expenses and the family's most basic living expenses. Although Christine took on a new job several weeks ago, this will not be nearly enough to make even the most modest of ends meet.
There has been so much that has tested Mark and Christine’s loyalty, love and strength. They are friends that have given unconditional support - but they are also human and now need help. I pray that we show them that they are not alone because we are here to help.
Mark has been so many things to so many people. A dependable friend. A protector to his wife. A father to his stepdaughter. An uncle to my children. The life of the party. The passion in a debate. The expert with words. The comic. The jokester. My family. Our goofball!
A very kind woman in the ICU waiting room reached out to Christine and said these words to her, "God gives his hardest battles to his strongest soldiers." Lets help bring our soldier home! Thank you all for your continued prayers and well wishes.
