URGENT: Help our LGBT Family Relocate

Hi, ya'll! We are the Youngbloods; a Queer, Neurodivergent family who are in desperate need of help relocating as soon as we're able to.

 

We have been living in Louisiana since 2014, with the intent of heading to a more LGBT+ and medically supportive area once we were more stable. Our plans to move 'eventually' have recently been pushed forward and become a matter of necessity, thanks to a drastic decrease in our income (through no fault of our own). We have had to use up what little savings we were able to put aside, as well as max out all existing lines of credit to keep ourselves afloat in the meantime.

 

Where we have been living has also become a health and safety hazard. Besides having water-rot throughout the floors and walls, and an active leak/crack in our ceiling and roof, we struggle to keep our home free of dangerous mold that has severely affected Newt's immune system. Their health has steadily declined since living here. The area has been seeing an increase in severe flooding as well, often leaving us unable to leave our house to go to work or get necessities like groceries.

 

We have also had to invest in security cameras because we have faced harassment, an attempted break in, and discrimination where we are currently living. This has seemed to escalate since we posted pride flags in our windows during this Pride month.

 

When we brought many of these issues to our landlord, we were promptly told that 'if we don't like how things are handled here, we can move out'. In addition, our rent has been regularly raised every 6 months or so due to our landlord attempting to move all of our park's units to plot rentals only. Because of how our lease is written, and Louisiana's bare minimum 'renter's rights and protections', we have little other choice.

 

So that is what we are set to do(ie: move), as soon as feasibly possible.

 

We already have a 'landing space' in Colorado, where we are hoping to better address the growing health concerns plaguing Newt and Nat, as well as a safer community for visibly Queer people and families.

 

A rough breakdown of what this fundraiser will go towards (est):

• Moving Fees - $3000-$5000
• Storage Fees - (If necessary) $300
• Temporary Hotels or Air BnB/Gas - $500
• Packing materials - (Up to) $100
• Deposit/First and Last Month’s Rent: $3000
• Miscellaneous costs that come up in the course of moving/surviving pre-move

 

Anything extra, if we do make our goal, will go towards replacing household necessities, as we are purging personal items and furniture in an attempt to downsize and make moving easier and more affordable.

 

Our goal is to be finished relocating and be in a new place within 3-6 months. The sooner the better, seeing as we are currently hemorrhaging money where we live, so the longer we delay our move, the more of our funds and income have to go towards staying afloat.

 

In the meantime, we are searching for stable employment for Nat in the Colorado Springs/Pueblo area, as well as preemptively house/apartment hunting. If you or someone you know happens to know of management or tech oriented places that are actively searching, feel free to reach out to one of us. The same goes for recommendations on affordable housing. (First floor access and pets are accommodations we need to keep in mind.)
