Urgent: Help Dave Tracey with Stroke Recovery

Donation protected
In January, Dave Tracey suffered a massive brain hemorrhage. He was helicoptered to DC where he spent three weeks in a Neuro-ICU unit followed by three weeks at Johns Hopkins’ intensive rehab and is currently in a sub-acute rehab in Baltimore County.  Many of you know Dave as a fun loving, witty, active, loving and deeply spiritual man. The good news is that Dave has kept his spit fire personality and sense of humor, which has helped tremendously during this time.

Dave is making progress, but it takes lots of support and constantly tapping his own deep well of fortitude.  As you might imagine, staying optimistic has been a challenge for him.  The coronavirus quarantine and suspension of ALL visits is extremely difficult for all of us, particularly Dave, as we can’t surround him with the love of friends and family that has helped him so much up to this point.

The good news is that Dave is gaining back control of his left hand and arm but unfortunately he has no use of his left hip or leg. We hope in time his brain injury will heal and he will recognize his left side. Complicating matters, his muscle spasticity is serious and getting worse. Our immediate goal is for Dave to learn to transition from his bed to his wheelchair without two people assisting. He is working hard with physical and occupational therapists and doing exercises on his own. The sooner he gets home, the better for his continued improvement.

Our family is anticipating many expenses as we prepare to welcome Dave home. These include: making our home handicapped accessible, purchasing a wheelchair-friendly vehicle, adding a ground floor bathroom, hiring a full-time home health aide for at least the first year, and medical bills not covered by insurance.  Dave has always been the one to offer help, guidance and support to anyone who needs it. Now it’s our turn to support him. If you are able to help, please consider a contribution to this GoFundMe fund. Any amount you can contribute would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support. With love, the Ford-Tracey Family
