Help for Dhalla Girls High School, Pakistan

Donation protected
Hi there and thank you for reading.

I am a retired teacher from the UK. I visited a girl’s high school in Mirpur AJK Pakistan on my recent visit to the country. I wanted to view the educational facilities and standards in the school. Upon proving my credentials, I was allowed in to see the class rooms, meet some children and speak to the teachers and get an overview of the facilities. The school houses up to 3 classes in one class room due to the lack of class rooms. Three other classes have to sit outside on the ground in all weather conditions, (extreme sun, wind or light rain). The school desperately needs additional class rooms, chairs, desks, white boards and projectors. I have promised the school that I shall make every effort to help them raise some funds for the school facilities as I am limited in my personal capacity to only do so much, which falls short of what is desperately needed.

Standards and achievements
I was asked to teach a lesson on a maths topic as taught in the UK and I could tell that the students were aware of what I was teaching and responded with a lot of knowledge about the topic. It is a public school (government funded) that in my opinion is on par with privately funded schools in the area in terms of teaching and achievement but just imagine what they could achieve, given some facilities.

Moving on
Unfortunately, not every girl makes it to the Tenth class for reasons of deprivation and those who do, end their education at that point. Maybe 5% move on to further education and study to Batchelors or master’s level. The school has dedicated staff and given some additional resource could help these girls achieve their potential. This will empower the girls to gain knowledge, hold jobs and become a contributory member of a family thus lifting them out of poverty. The situation at the moment is that they leave school with little or no education, parents marry them off and they become mothers at a very young age, live a life of deprivation and die young as a result.

Current Facilities
  • 7 classrooms accommodating a total of 12 classes
  • Inadequate amount of furniture to meet the needs of the students and faculty
  • 1 toilet for the 150 girls that attend the school

I want people to contribute in terms of:
  • Help to fund with building at least 3 additional class rooms.
  • Help with class room/s furniture.
  • Help with white board/s and projector/s

My promise:
I promise to use any funds raised to develop facilities at this school even if that means travelling over to Mirpur to engage contractors personally and seeing the works carried out. In the end I shall make a video of the facilities so that you can verify the work done.

Please donate what you can, sadqa jariah and zakat are both applicable for this cause.

Best regards
