Help us launch 10,000 Untrash Groups!
Our first project, Untrash East Bay, has been hugely successful, and we've grown the group to 400 members and cleaned up 1300 bags of trash in our first 10 months of operation. Even more significantly, we've figured out how to dramatically reduce *new* trashing in an area through a series of interventions that work to change the social norms that underlie trashing.
Now we'd like to take what we've learned, and spread it around the world.
To do that, we're raising funds to create the Untrash Communities platform.
This platform consists of an app to promote, inspire, organize, track and celebrate local untrashing efforts. Anyone can launch an Untrash group simply by tracking their work as they untrash an area, and the platform will promote your project to your neighbors, and help inspire, recruit and celebrate your successes.
By tracking which areas have been cleaned, and how much trash is being removed, not only can it help many people working individually to tackle an otherwise overwhelming problem, it can also help target interventions to *permanently* reduce trashing.
The Untrash App will launch first on iOS and the Web, with an Android version to follow.
