United Nations Symposium 2017

I am Samkelwe Gqomo the Founding Editor of womandla.com, a Women empowerment blog which aims  to celebrate and empower women in Africa and around the globe through digital media.

I just received my acceptance letter to be one of the very few South African delegates at the 8th University Scholars Leadership Symposium at the United Nations in Bangkok, Thailand. As part of a global movement in Social Change, I write to you with an urgent request with hopes of receive funding to attend the program.

This opportunity is one not to be missed  especially relating to the work I have been putting in for Womandla.com and the opportunities that the symposium will come with thereafter.  The symposium will be at the  United Nations, from August 1 to 7, 2017.

I hope to establish new relationships with like-minded individuals. Those of which can help the development and spread of my vision. I hope to be inspired to think differently, on a global scale and to be exposed to different experiences that will enhance my goal-setting capabilities and leadership skills. I have a plan to create a profile database of other delegates who can mentor my followers so that they can potentially benefit from the cause. It is important for the numbers to grow exponentially, so to attract many more advertisers and investors. The more well-known the platform is, there more self-sustainable it becomes as it generates its own funds through sponsorships and more frequent fundraising events.

In the near future, I would like to secure funding to register the platform as a Social Enterprise and form partnerships with leading colleges and universities for a Womandla Travel Bursary, Womandla Scholarship of the Arts and Womandla Leadership Programme all of this can be made possible from making the right connections and replicating what I will experience at USLS.

I hope to make a noticeable difference in my country, by changing the trajectory of the lives of young women on a much larger scale, upon my return.

The program costs USD 1,059.30 (R14 000) and flight costs of R6000. So I would require ZAR20 000  altogether by 18 June 2017 to confirm attendance. Any contribution towards these fees will be of great help and draw me closer to my dream.

The general aim of my online platform is to celebrate and empower women in Africa and around the globe through digital media.
The objectives of Womandla.com are:
1. To build networks for young scholars and professionals across the globe
2. To educate South African girls by raising funds for their tuition through digital advertising and
3. To establish online mentorship/mentee relationships for the girls.

My page shares career and educational opportunities for women (both nationally and globally). I uplift and encourage women by use of songs, poetry and share personal stories as this is how we believe Africa was built. I advise and inspire on healthcare, spirituality, careers and relationships.
The content is received by following related blogs and social pages and approaching inspirational women and interviewing them. Personal reflections and contributors also add to the content.
The platform is currently sitting at 2446 followers with aims to grow by 20% (approx. 500 followers) by the end of 2017.
