Unexpected pay or vacate, please help if you can

My name is Martina Martin and as some of you may know at the end of summer my family and I moved across the country. We left the beautiful Flathead Valley in Montana to the unknown just outside Phoenix Arizona. We left all we have ever known in search of a place to call home.

It’s been a rocky road with lots of bumps along the way. I have been able to persevere through it all until now. A couple weeks back while cooking for my kiddos I had the misfortune of experiencing my stove catching on fire. (Grease splashed and ignited) quickly discovered there is NO fire extinguisher in my rental. Apparently it’s not required for them to have one and never thought to check. Mistakes were made and I extinguished the fire by smothering it and causing burns.

The rental agency came and made all the repairs and cleaning required. I hadn’t heard anything back for costs or estimates. That is until I was served with a 6 day notice to pay a whopping $6,500 or vacate. I am at such a loss and I don’t know what else to do. I am almost 1500 miles from anyone we could stay with. My kids just got settled and are thriving. If it was just me I’d be okay but it’s not.
