Joseph Guercio's Acute Myeloid Leukemia Diagnosis

After visiting the hospital with a fever on 11/14/20, Joe learned that he has Acute Myeloid Leukemia. As those close to us know, Joey already suffers with diabetes, COPD and heart disease. This additional diagnosis was not only a huge blow to him, but to myself and the rest of our family. 
     For those of you who do not know Joey, please allow me to give you some background. Joe is the most beloved (and we often joke that he is also the most "popular") member of our family and his community. There is none more generous or kind; charismatic or friendly. He is a special soul and the center of our brood.  The keeper of the family news; the one who will always welcome you even if you are just passing through. He is always happy to get your phone call and is always willing to cook you whatever you want and even show you how to make it for yourself. As the resident chef of the family, his presence is missed even more now at holiday gatherings when we would be usually eating his famed dishes with a side of his sarcastic, quick-witted and hilarious quips. With a personality as big as his heart, Joe is a husband, uncle, cousin and friend unlike any other. 
     The only way to battle the form of Leukemia that Joey has been diagnosed with is with quick and aggressive chemo which will leave him immuno-compromised. This chemo aftereffect is especially scary and dangerous now as we are in the middle of a global health crisis.  As Joe undergoes extensive treatment, he will be unable to work and thus, unable to support himself.  Joey has already been in the hospital for 2 weeks and cut off from visitors due to how vulnerable this cancer has left him.  GoFundMe donations would be going towards Joe's bills both inside and outside of the hospital. 
     It is a hard time financially for everyone; COVID has left many unemployed and the holidays are upon us, however should you find you have something to spare I hope you will consider Joe and help him in this fight. Thank you all.
