UMiami Community Supporting Hurricane Ian Relief
Tax deductible
Hurricane Ian wreaked havoc on the Southwestern coast of Florida in the early morning of Wednesday, September 28th, particularly affecting the city of Fort Myers. This category 4 hurricane yielded tremendously strong winds and overwhelming flooding, destroying homes, establishments, vehicles, and so much more. The storm surge from Ian devastated Florida's Gulf Coast, leaving cities like Fort Myers and Naples in need of our help.
The University of Miami is located in Coral Gables, FL, so our community understands the devastating effects of such a strong hurricane and knows the importance of coming together during these times. Created by Sofia Alkon, a 3rd-year student at the University of Miami, this fundraiser aims to collect donations from students, families, and staff at the University of Miami to support American Red Cross, a non-profit organization for disaster relief. American Red Cross has sent over 500 Red Cross disaster workers to affected areas, created emergency shelters for people whose homes have been lost, and accepted blood donations for injured residents. 100% of donations to this fundraiser will go directly to American Red Cross, so please consider donating and sharing with anyone within the University of Miami community.
