Dear Friends:
Since Nov 2020, the Tigray Region of Ethiopia has been affected by war that led to the disruption of essential healthcare services, education and research as well as displacement of students, researchers, faculty and ordinary healthcare providers. Additionally, there is ongoing catastrophic humanitarian crisis that is affecting ordinary citizens in the region (https://gh.bmj.com/content/6/11/e007328).
We are raising funds to contribute to the emergency response of those affected by the humanitarian crisis, including children suffering from acute malnutrition, lack of medications, and medical institutions that have run out of medical supplies. We have deep connection and partnership with the people, hospitals and academic institutions that are victimized by the humanitarian crisis and we are committed to help fill in some gaps in existing emergency response efforts. In the short run, one of the primary focus of our fund raising will be to provide funds for medications, medical supplies and equipment that are in dire need at partner healthcare institutions in the Tigray region such as Ayder tertiary hospital in Mekelle, Hamlin Fistula Center in Mekelle and nearby regional hospitals. We would also like to support the health workers of these hospitals and health centers who have been with out salaries since June 2021. https://www.thelancet.com/journals/lancet/article/PIIS0140-6736(22)00054-X/fulltext
