Matabeleland Gukurahundi Genocide at International Stage 2020!

Let us make it happen together!

Uloyiko theatre group, the creative team that came up with the Matebeleland Gukurahundi Genocide play, will be embarking on a 2020 international tour.

They are currently looking at participating at Hollywood Fringe Festival that will be taking place in June 2020 in America and San Diago Fringe Festival, America, that will be taking place  in July 2020 and finaly looking forward for a London Tour in 2020 at the invitation  of the 1893 Mthwakazi Human Rights Restoration Movement(1893 MHRRM) at a date yet to be announced.

This is a once in life time opportunity for uLoyiko to premiere the play on a world-wide platform to advance international recognition of Matebeleland Gukurahdundi Genocide that took place between 1983 and 1987 in Zimbabwe, where over 20 000 people of Matebeleland were ethnically cleansed by the then regime of Robert Gabriel Mugabe and his co-conspirators who are in power today.

We are therefore appealing for financial support from individuals and organizations to cover air tickets and accommodation expenses in order to showcase this play at International Platforms.

uLoyiko Theatre ensemble group was started by young South Africans in Cape Town and launched on 16 June 2016.

It has since collaborated with Genocide victims and encouraged the sharing of their experiences during the Genocide.

The play has premiered in South Africa’s National State Theatre in Pretoria in June 2019.

It has also won best ensemble at Zabalaza festival at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, in 2017.

After watching this moving genocide play, South Africa’s Sunday Times columnist, Telford Vice, dramatically described the gripping genocide  as shown in the play as, “Rape by rifle barrel.
Summary castration. Cannibalism at gunpoint. Murder most casual.”

The young South Africans have taken the play across South Africa’s audiences and it has been received well and with utter shock of what happened in Matebeleland in the 80s soon after independence.

Uloyiko is therefore hoping to make it to America  with your support. This tour will contribute significantly towards the international regognition of the Matebeleland Genocide as well as create an impetus for Truth, Justice and Reparations for the people of Matebeleland.
