Ukrainian family far from home settling in Pentict

My name is Diane MacDonald and I am the host to an incredible family from Ukraine. My heart went out to those impacted by this war and I knew I had to do something to help. I signed up to “Kelowna Stands with Ukraine” and was matched to a family of two moms Nadiia Synytsia and Liubov Reiko (cousins) and their four children. It has been an incredible experience getting to know this family and have been blessed with support from the community. This family needs some help getting themselves established here in Canada, and all funds raised will go directly to supporting this family’s needs.

Their story:

Nadiia and her cousin Liubov arrived in Canada on October 15, 2022, after a four day journey from their home in Kiev, Ukraine. They came to Canada with their four children and one suitcase each, to escape the war and trauma occurring in Ukraine.

Nadiia, Liubov and the children have been working hard at adapting to life in Canada, learning English, enrolling children in school, obtaining driver’s licenses and preparing for employment. In addition, the family was quick to start volunteering in community, donating their time to help others in need.

While Nadiia and Liubov are developing their English, building resumes and practicing interview skills, they are in need of some financial support to help get them on their feet.

They were given a generous deal on a 2007 Honda Odyssey from a local community member, in order to get their children to school and themselves to English classes. The van is in need of some repairs and a local mechanic has provided an estimate of approximately $3000.

In addition, one of the children is in need of physio after a fall on the ice, and the funds will be used to pay for this service.

The youngest child has found a connection to parkour and would like to be able to attend on a monthly basis, and money raised will be used to support his passion.

Any remaining donations will be used for food, gas, and expenses until such time Nadiia and Liubov secure employment.
