Ukraine Trauma Patients Urgently Need Your Help

Tax deductible
Ukraine Response:
Our team is working with Dr. Viktor Rokutov and his department in Dnipro Regional Children's Hospital. So far, we have sent 17 VATARA pumps. These pumps remove fluid from the wound and allow for faster healing and recovery. They help patients heal faster and better. However, due to the increased severity and humanitarian crisis on the ground, the demand is continuously increasing. Our last request was for more than 50 devices. We need your help to save the limbs of these victims. This is going to lessen the trauma and death of war. We need your support.

Breakdown of Funds:
  • It costs us ~$130 to build each VATARA. This includes the materials, assembly, and shipping costs.
We ship the VATARAs from NYC to Warsaw, Poland. From there, they are transported on a train from Warsaw to Lviv, Ukraine where they are distributed locally as needed.

How does it work?
VATARA works through negative wound pressure therapy — drawing fluid out of a wound to prevent infection and expedite healing. The goal is a faster and healthier recovery.

Who are we?
My name is Sara AlZubi , the Chief Operational Officer of VATARA. I'm also a current Harvard Medical Student.
The CEO is Dr Kiran Agarwal Harding , incoming Global Orthopaedics Director at BIDMC Hospital.
The rest of our team includes orthopaedic surgeons, residents, fellows, and engineers.

Mission of VATARA:
Our aim at VATARA is a low-cost negative pressure wound therapy pump. We hope to reduce the cost even further to improve its affordability and availability. We aim to make this essential technology available to all trauma patients who need it, especially in resource-limited settings and humanitarian crises.

NonProfit Status:
VATARA is part of the Harvard Orthopaedic Alumni Association is a nonprofit (501(c)3) and a group of Harvard-affiliated orthopaedic surgery faculty and trainees who share a passion for improving access to musculoskeletal health care globally.
