A hero's journey

"Hardships often prepare ordinary people for an extraordinary destiny."   - C. S. Lewis

Clark has been our little superhero from day one. Early into Brianna's pregnancy, Clark's congenital heart disease was discovered by ultrasound. Tricuspid artresia is an absence of the tricuspid valve, the passageway between the right atrium and right ventricle. Along with this, Clark's aortic arch is smaller than usual and his great arteries are transposed.

Three open heart surgeries will be necessary, the first of which is to happen merely days after Clark's birth. The next surgery will be around age 3-6 months and the last anywhere from 18 months to 5 years old. These surgeries will help the left ventricle pump blood to the lungs and to the rest of the body as well.

Clark is on medications to keep the hole between his left atrium and right atrium open; this medicine is crucial for his survival. Despite the crummy side effects of it, he still very much enjoys snuggling with his mama and is slowly learning the Hillestad Highfive with his big brother, Oliver!

Your continuing support is so appreciated. With your donation, the Hillestad's can focus on their family instead of their medical bills. The love and prayers go a long way!
