Guru urgently needs radiotherapy

Donation protected
Hi, my name is Laura and I'm the proud doggo parent of an 11 year old staffy named Guru.

Four years ago, he was abandoned at the pound and was saved from death row by Wodonga Dog Rescue where I first met him.  By chance, I happened to be in Wodonga visiting family friends at the time.  We crossed paths at a time where I needed a companion, and the second I saw him, I knew it was a perfect match.  Really, we rescued each other.

Just back in August, I took him for his annual checkup and he was the picture of perfect health.  Less than 8 weeks later, he suddenly had a grand mal seizure with no warning.  He's never had any seizures as long as I've had him.  It was a terrifying experience, especially because it came out of nowhere.

After extensive testing, everything was ruled out: it wasn't environmental, it wasn't dietary, and it wasn't in his blood.  This only left one option: something in his brain.

After eight weeks since the first seizure and a lot of medication, Guru finally had an MRI which revealed a large tumour in his brain.  While it appears to be a non-malignant tumour, it has put a lot of pressure on his brain and is causing him to have more seizures.

It has been an incredibly hard decision whether to pursue treatmeant or not, but the vets have said that despite his age, and despite the tumour, his bloodwork is still perfect.  And when he's not too dopey from the anti-seizure medication, we can tell that he's still his happy, snorty self in there.

It is such a cruel fate for an otherwise healthy puppy to lose his life when there is treatment available, but he needs it urgently.

Radiotherapy and/or surgery are his only chance at another 12-18 months.

Unfortunately, though, treatment is very expensive and is only available in Sydney.

The $12k target will cover the treatment only. There are still a lot of over-and-above costs like flights, five nights board, medication and ongoing vet visits. Any amount you can afford to donate will mean the world to me.

He's such a special boy and puts a smile on everybody's face that he meets. It would mean the world to me if we could keep him around as long as we can. The world is a much better place with his big staffy grin in it ❤️❤️❤️
