It has a been a whirlwind since her and Cody’s arrival just after Thanksgiving. She and Jay have been at Virginia Mason Hospital in Seattle since Christmas. After a biopsy of the blockage in her esophagus came up positive and each time a new test was done, the prognosis was worse and worse. Metastasized, terminal but treatable, then eventually, not treatable. She had no idea, no symptoms, except for difficulty swallowing for many months.
Since the doctors have said the cancer is untreatable, she has been resolute in her decision to end life-sustaining measures, she is now being kept comfortable and as pain-free as possible. We are all with her as much as possible, sharing our love for her and Jay and Cody (21 months old). Her heart is open to visitors and we are grateful for every one.
Her husband, Jay, and son, Cody, and all of us, appreciate all of the love, healing thoughts, prayers and prayer chains that have been bestowed upon Meagan, her family, and all of us.
We had hoped to take her home and be on hospice but Meagan's situation is unique and the Whatcom County Hospice is not equipped to handle her medical condition.
Every day is a blessing. Everyone who has known, loved, and cared for Meagan we hope is getting this news because her days are diminishing. We will be with her until her last breath.
Thank you to Jay Ellis, Jr. for the deep love and devotion you have shown my daughter. She’s been a lucky woman to share this life with you.
With love, grace and dignity, Meagan moves into her next existence.
