Badabin Eeyou Fundraising Efforts Destroyed

We at Badabin Eeyou School need your help. On the morning of November 14th, 2021, our school was broken into, and the culprit made off with around 1200$ worth of funds that were raised by our Secondary 5 class (who can be seen in the picture). The class had been working tirelessly throughout the school year to raise this money, putting in hours after school and during weekends to save up to fund their graduation ceremony and trip. Upon hearing that everything they had worked so hard to fundraise for had been gone, they were distraught, devastated, and disillusioned as to the realities of trying.

Badabin Eeyou School is located in the fly-in, First Nations community of Whapmagoostui, Quebec. The town is diminutive and lacking many resources available in southern Canada, and our students often struggle in overcrowded and underfunded housing. This fundraising was an opportunity for them to experience what life was like outside of their community, as newly graduated youth ready to make a difference in their town. Unfortunately, these efforts have been reduced to nothing due to this senseless act.

With this GoFundMe, we are looking to compensate the youth who have worked so hard to change the systemic pattern of neglect, racism and abuse they have been put in. This act has shaken their confidence in their community and their peers, and has caused many to question the use of trying when their efforts are constantly negated by criminality.
