Funding for a Documentary - Urban Ballet Theater

Working title: “Further Forward Before Time.”

A Documentary based on the Urban Ballet Theater.

The true story of the Urban Ballet Theater, a ballet company who grew out of Daniel Catanach’s years of outreach programs in urban communities combined with Catanach’s desire to give opportunities to professional dancers who did not fit in to the existing ballet world. Urban Ballet Theater changed their lives and the way the dance world looked at ballet, because it was the first time there was true diversity on pointe, on stage, and in the audience.

Film maker Eddie Bernard takes on the task of showing the beauty of over 30 ballets that were created by Daniel Catanach during this time. He will tell the story of how it just fell into place, not only because of Catanach’s beautiful choreography, but who he was creating the stories with, about, and for. Finally, he will show how this small but powerful company changed the way ballet evolved.

Urban Ballet Theater was created by renowned choreographer and master ballet teacher Daniel Catanach in 2002. The words Urban and Ballet had never been used in such close proximity before.

Mr. Bernard not only wants to show the past but the current impact of where these artists landed up. Through interviews with “Everyone” as he exclaims. “I am going to interview Everyone! “
