Team Arlo vs. B-Cell Leukaemia

Join our fight, every little bit counts.

Not ones to ever ask anyone for anything, after our gorgeous boy Arlo received the shock diagnosis of B-Cell leukaemia, the time has come for Andy and I to ask for your help.

After a short period of unknown illness and ongoing pain we took Arlo to Port Macquarie base hospital to be assessed, expecting an overnight stay for monitoring at worst. Within hours of being seen and blood tests being completed multiple times, we were advised that diagnosis and care needed to occur at a more prepared hospital. Arlo and I boarded a NSW Air Ambulance aircraft at 2am and upon landing in Williamstown were transferred via ambulance to John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle.

A day of testing followed and on Friday July 1st 2022 our worst nightmare began when our eldest son, our darling boy Arlo was diagnosed with B-Cell leukaemia. Broken doesn’t begin to describe what this diagnosis does to a parent but with Arlo and his younger brother both needing us to be stronger than ever, right now we must bravely face the treatment he will require for the months and years ahead, together, as a family. In order to do that our employment must take a backseat for the foreseeable future.

With the ongoing cost of living prices soaring, our currently weekly rental costs coming in on top of all other budget expenses we now face, our inability to work will enviably become unmanageable financially. Over the coming months Arlo’s initial fight begins with our family required to be located in Newcastle full time to ensure Arlo’s continuation of care, our financial commitments are at the forefront of our minds.

Once certain milestones are reached in the months ahead our family will be able to return home but will continue to be required to travel weekly from our home in Rawdon Island, NSW to attend his chemotherapy treatment at John Hunter Hospital in Newcastle over 250kms away.

In times like this every little bit can make the biggest difference so with our cheeks red and our pride on our sleeves we humbly ask you to donate what you can.

If you would like to help but at this time a monetary contribution is not possible, we would like to ask you or those nearest to you to alternatively make a blood donation to the closest Red Cross facility.

Blood and blood products are a hugely important part of Arlo’s care and ongoing treatment. After already benefitting from a number of blood transfusions and blood products Arlo has required we know your donation, however small, could make all the difference for someone who needs life saving care.

Your love, well wishes and healing thoughts are so greatly appreciated by our family and all of Team Arlo! He’s got this!!

Big love, Billie & Andy ❤️
