Hello Good People!! Your donations will help us provide our...

9th FREE *HIP HOP SUMMER CAMP FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE* !!

Our challenging times call for a truly collaborative response! This summer Urban Art Beat is teaming up with the 4 spheres of Maroon Liberation School to simultaneously reach the youth and honor our revolutionary elders and freedom fighters through art , literature and music. Your support will help us to demonstrate that change is possible and thank those that came before us to pave the way !

To celebrate the completion of our June 7th and 8th "Pop Up Camp" we are hoping to get 146 Maroon comic books in the hands of 146 brilliant middle schoolers.

UPDATE! As of June 10th, YOU have "financed" a full class set!! All donations coming in before June 15th will be for books for our graduating 8th graders!

WHY “Camps”

We have spaced out our youth work to broaden our reach! We have camp workshops and actions planned June through September that will be both safely online and in person. Our Pop Up camp in June will serve different youth than the camp in late August /September, providing more access to personalized mentorship!

Contributing to our Hip Hop Summer Camps for Social Justice will empower select groups of young voices to express themselves artistically, learn new musical skills and build supportive relationships, while addressing social injustice in our communities with their art and leadership skills.

For our June 7th and 8th grade "Pop Up Camp" we are focusing on liberatory leadership in the realms of Civil Rights, Heritage and Identity. "Know your Roots, Know Your Rights." Students and special guest teaching artists will be learning from the past and taking collaborative action through creation to spread awareness of Social Justice issues affecting our youth in NYC.

Stipended Internships: Each youth 25 and under will receive $221 for coming to each Maroon Monday through the end of August.

 Your Donation Will Provide:

 *Mutual Aid

 *Metrocards and transportation expenses

*Hot Meals and weekly options to participate in food distribution

 *Employment Opportunities for disenfranchised youth

 *Writing Materials and Art Supplies

*Recording & Performance Opportunities for Social Justice causes

*Paid Professional Revolutionary Development for Bipoc Youth 25 and under

WHY do we intentionally employ BIPOC youth and formerly incarcerated participants?

Our international work in prisons and detention centers has shown us that Youth who have access to supportive, liberated spaces are less likely to experience recidivism.

Our music production centered program, Beyond Beats and Bars, have shown extremely high levels of engagement, collaboration, critical thinking skills and self-reflection.

Our goal is to keep that engagement high while providing a platform for expression and facilitating the natural support that artists have for each other in creative, non competitive communities.

Mass Incarceration is dehumanizing, Exposure to other artists (mentors and peers) utilizing their music as a way to make change will energize voices to rise and chains to be broken.

Young Vocalists, Emcees, Poets, Graphic Artists, Writers,Singers in the suburbs or more affluent areas have access to quality arts, music and mentoring all year long. Join us in leveling the playing field this summer.

WHERE: In order to respect shifting CDC guidelines around Covid 19 “Camp” will happen in waves, mostly on Zoom, with live events at least once a month in June, July, August and September. please contact spirit if you would like to get involved [email redacted]

Urban Art Beat is collaborating with the Maroon Liberation School....What is the maroon liberation school?
mission/vision

we are a liberation school. a process that engages in rEvolutionary praxis for internal (ontological) and external (ideological) development. we develop the science and soul of ourselves and our communities for a holistic transformation. the goal is to become like-minded beings in our creativity, capability, commitment, clarity and compassion. to do the work that is aligned with our tenets and mission to dismantle patriarchy (which birthed white supremacy along with other isms that foster an eco system of oppression). we seek awareness to articulate strategy for plans of effective action.

we are a rainbow of nations from the south Bronx to south Afrika; making rEvolutions real lead by Black, Brown, Indigenous and Asian people, legacy and ideology.

WHY Collaboration?

The workshops we offer and the actions we are taking and plan to take this Summer embody principles that require a multi -directional approach in order to facilitate the change we wish to see for our youth in this world.

maroon party for liberation members are united by the drive to prefigure a new society free of imperialism, colonization, racism, hetero-patriarchy & capitalist exploitation.

we stand up against all forms of social inequality & we stand for the dignity & self-determination of “oppressed peoples,” which we have since our travels and organizing identified as maroons (not limiting to oppression or being identified as oppressed yet existing as a resistance and not exclusive to ethnicity yet a rainbow of cultures who take a stance toward liberation against oppression).

the leadership for this movement will first & foremost be womxn & oppressed nationalities (maroons). It is based on excellence & experimentation.

MAROON PARTY FOR LIBERATION  BELIEVES IN ENVISIONING & BUILDING A WORLD WHERE MANY WORLDS FIT
