Diabetic Alert Dog

Our 10 year old daughter, Ava, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in November. It came as quite a shock to our whole family and we may never understand why God allowed such a kind hearted, child of His to experience this horrible disease, but we know He is in control no matter what. Ava has become wise beyond her years through these past few months and her dad and I find ourselves in awe of her strength at times. Having to give herself 4 shots a day and constant finger pricks to test her blood while counting every single carb she eats is enough for anyone to want to just give up. Not Ava! Her strength has inspired me in so many ways  as her mother. I just want to give her my own pancreas to have her healthy again but I know that’s not possible and God has a plan for her!
Being so new to diabetes, it can be a huge roller coaster ride of highs and low of blood glucose readings and it’s a parents worst nightmare to miss a low in the middle of the night. This is why we are trying to raise funds to acquire a diabetic alert dog. These dogs can help a diabetic in being able to sense when their blood sugar is dropping 15 minutes before any electronic device will pick it up. They can be life saving at night if the diabetic is dropping, the dog will go wake them up. An animal like this could be so beneficial for Ava and a huge piece of mind for her parents.
