This past weekend Ty was racing in the Rockstar Triple Crown Arenacross in Calgary.
3 laps in he came up short on a jump and cased it. He got his bike to the corner, laid it down and never got back up. He knew immediately that he had broken both of his ankles.
He dislocated & fractured his talus in both ankles. The right has been repaired with 7 screws and a plate. The left has been a pain for Ty and the two orthopedic surgeons assigned to him. After many attempts to get the talus back in they had to saw bone & make more cuts. But it’s now in place with 12 screws and a plate. He has sustained some serious nerve damage to the left foot as well and only time will tell how that will heal.
We need to get Ty, and his parents back home. It is not sure how that will happen, but air or road ambulance are options being looked into, both being costly.
The house in Radville will need some renovating to accommodate his new wheels. It is estimated that Ty will be in a wheelchair for around 3 months and then the rehab will start.
Ty won't be able to work for quite a while and we know how life bills will add up.
