Two Thieves - my thesis short film

Spende geschützt
HEY THERE!

My name is Lottie and I’m an aspiring filmmaker in San Francisco. During my time at San Francisco Film School I’ve made a short narrative film, a documentary, and a commercial all with the help of my wonderful and talented classmates and teachers. In early November I will be directing the filming of my thesis project, Two Thieves (a working title). I’m so excited to start production on this project; I’ll be working with some amazing young actors who I know will help bring the story to life! The short film will have an intentionally childish outer space adventure vibe (to match with Cameron’s sci-fi novel), and a fantastically funky synth soundtrack by TRG Banks (https://soundcloud.com/trgbanks).

THE STORY

I wrote this story with inspiration from films I watched as a kid, as well as experiences from my own childhood. Like tons of other kids around Cameron’s age, it was difficult for me to find friends who had the same interests as me, and I often found myself left out for being myself. I was lucky to find friends who appreciated me for who I was, and this story I’ve written for my thesis is a visual way of saying “Thank You” to all the true buddies I made during those daunting years of trying and failing to fit in.

THE CHARACTERS

12 year old Cameron is a closet outsider, yet has managed to make her way into the popular group from school. She’s a mega-fan of The Adventures Of Lady Viriba and Leo, a fictional sci-fi novel about two friends who travel through outer space together, standing up for extraterrestrial underdogs in the name of intergalactic justice. When her classmates find her reading one of her beloved sci-fi novels, she is dared to steal cigarettes from the corner store to prove her place in the clique. If she slips up, she loses her precious club bracelet, and her reputation.

In the middle of her mischievous quest, Cameron runs into Luca, the cashier’s young son. Luca is an outcast, who, like Cameron, has some bizarre quirks and interests that set him apart from the other kids his age. His differences don’t bother him though, as he’s a charmingly naive fellow. He’s the big-hearted cronie we all wish we had. However, he has something of Cameron’s, something valuable.

Ashley and Bella are Cameron’s friends from school. They cruise around town on their scooters causing trouble. They’ve recruited Cameron into their popular clique because

1.) Cameron has been able to play it off as a “cool kid” thus far and

2.) There’s not a whole lot of kids in this small town so they’ve gotta make do with who they’ve got.

The crew is made up of my classmates at San Francisco Film School: Travis LaBrucherie (Assistant Director), Carlos Guzman (Cinematographer), Kamilah Spencer (Sound recordist), Travis Tran (Gaffer), Kristin Tegtmeier Higgins and Jamie Banks (Producers).

Our location is Rocky’s Market in Oakland, and we’re so thankful to the owners and employees for allowing us to use their space for this project.

However, I can’t make this short film without your help! I’m attempting to raise $1,000 for this project to…

-Transport my cast, crew, and equipment.

-Feed my cast and crew for 3 days of shooting (As well as the parents of my child actors).

-Purchase the wardrobe and props.

-Pay for any other post-production needs.

To anyone who can give support for my project, I’ll be so grateful! You’ll receive a ‘Special Thanks’ in the credits of the film, as well as a poster in the style of Cameron’s book illustrations.
