Tuba for Cuba!
Donation protected
Hola! I will be returning to eastern Cuba next year for the fifth time with students from Holy Trinity Academy. As always, we'll be taking toiletries, toothbrushes, ibuprofen (impossible to acquire) and other necessities. And we'll be travelling to the many small community bands in the hills of the region, ensembles that are reminants of the US influence over a century ago. These tiny town bands have very few resources - I was able to fix three clarinets on our last trip with pads to replace the tissue they'd glued in place. And we only saw one tuba - a sad instrument, held together with more duct tape than metal. But they were so proud! They had a bass section!
We take as many instruments as are donated, and we purchase as many supplies as we can. But it would be truly amazing if we could take a tuba (or two!) next year to beef up those bands! The impact would be awesome - these people love music and they their bands!
