Blessed to be alive

February 13th our lives changed forever.  Matthew 35yrs old had been sick for a couple days prior. Complained of a stomach ache and that Wednesday morning he had a fever. I went to wake him and he was febrile.  I gathered our 1yr old and 3.5 yr old took them to daycare then proceeded to work.  Matthew didn't answer any of my texts nor phone calls. I left work early.  I walked up the stairs and he was unresponsive, had labored breathing with a death rattle. His lips were blue. I called 911. The EMS came. As they thought he was a drug overdose I explained we're in aviation we don't do drugs. They carried him down the stairs and as they placed him in the ambulance they had to intubate him.  He went into cardiac arrest.  In the ambulance at the end of the driveway trying to revive him. They suctioned out his lungs and shocked him back to life. They never gave up on him! They rushed him to Parma UH. They had started every antibiotic and every test and only knew he was young, had fluid in his lungs and he was in the fight for his life. The doctors thought he was having seizures with his high temp of 103.9. They transported him with a critical care unit to main campus UH. He spent 12 days in the MICU. The first 3 days they put him in a medically induced coma and induced hypothermia to cool his body to save his brain and vital organs. When Matthew went into cardiac arrest he had a watershed stroke.  While in the MICU he was on a ventilator.  He bit down thrashing around in his coma that he knocked out his own front 3 teeth.  The 25th he woke out of the coma and was ex-intibated and moved to a step down unit.  Unable to swallow due to the stroke and the ventilator being in so long he had a feeding tube. My husband Matthew has been off work since and I have as well. I will be going back to work soon but the dental to fix his smile will be 3 implants. Matthew is one of the sweetest, nicest guys you would ever meet. I don't know a single person that doesn't think he's terrific! If you're unable to help us I understand completely.  All I ask is for your prayers of a complete recovery.  The doctors said he would never walk talk and to pick out a facility to spend the rest of his life. He is walking talking and doing his therapy 2x's a week. He has a long road ahead  but I appreciate your time and prayers.
